Illustration Friday "Island"

This is a color comp I'm working on for one of my own picture book manuscripts, and it fits the Illustration Friday theme since little brother discovers big sister's island of vegetation in her bedroom.

This, of course, is just a messy color comp, not the finished painting, but I've been getting frustrated over it trying to get the colors and composition to work together. I was hoping to have the painting finished before the SCBWI conference I'm going to next week, but I doubt that's going to happen with all my other illustration work right now and with my main computer in the shop. But perhaps this illustration will end up falling into place... I do like some areas of color in this.

Check back after next weekend for my notes from the conference.

Wouldn't it be great if all we had to do to escape to a retreat is to go to our rooms? Wonderful!

Love this, Kristi! It definitely has a very dreamy quality about it. The fairy with the watering can is wonderful.

Beautiful, Kristi! This is going to be a wonderful illustration. Love the balance of colors and the boy's positioning....his body language speaks loudly.

Have a great time and learn a lot at the conference. Maybe I'll get there next year.

Nice Idea Kristi. If you have little ones of your own in the future, you may find this could be more true than fantasy. I like the painting, and hope you will share more of it in the weeks to come. I love the little boy!

Sometimes the art work is so important and we are just way to critical of ourselves. Put it down for a day or two if you have time and then come back and look at it with a new perspective. I love it though...I think it is wonderful.
