Book Dummy - take 2

I posted a different color version of this a couple weeks ago, but since then I decided to experiment with the background color to make the penguins stand out more and also added the white sketchy background.

  1. Someone ought to have taken a bit of caution with the fish tank. The colour is an effective modification.

  7. Honestly, Mama how the heck do you work that magic right there???? How do you do it and can I become a student??? This is awesome. I'm not not flatter you either cause this is coming from my gut. this is off the chain fabulous. I love the simple background and it does make the birds stand out more. It's wonderful work! You have to teach me this magic.

  8. I thought I knew color fairly well! WRONG!!! Wow your choices have really enriched this illustration! I love how the simple backgrounds give it a sense of space and substance without interfering with the primary foreground. Wonderful work, masterfully done!

  10. I much prefer this version! White is always so harsh and unforgiving as a background colour, bleaching everything it touches. This cool blue is much nicer, and helps contextualise the environment for the penguis. The sketchy white linea art background is very effective, evocative of old cartoons but with a contemporary feel.

I love the way that you've rendered the fishtank against the daker background, is looks really good, and nicer for it's wonkiness. Characters are as nice as everm, composition very ncie... seems great to me! Are you gonna have to redesign many other pages to fit in with this new style, or is this the first dummy from your new book?
